Hidden away on Enya’s self-titled debut album, Boadicea re-emerged in 1996 after being sampled by hip-hop group The Fugees for their UK hit Ready Or Not. Though never released as a single, the 1988 instrumental sees Enya channel her piano-based inspirations – Claude Debussy and Erik Satie – to create a sweeping panoramic piece fit for any historical-epic soundtrack. The song started life as a poem written by Roma Ryan, but the lyrics went unused, as Enya and her team felt the music had a power beyond words. They weren’t wrong.
